Is Permanent Makeup Right for You?
On average, women spend about 55 minutes on their hair and makeup daily. That’s long enough to watch over half of a movie or go for a jog. Whether you spend more or less time applying your own cosmetics, permanent makeup can give you some of that time back.
Your time and energy are valuable, and we want to help you save both. To help you look your absolute best with much less hassle, our team of highly trained estheticians at Dutch Hollow Medical Day Spa in Godfrey, Illinois, offers permanent makeup services.
Here, we discuss this minimally invasive, time-saving aesthetic treatment, including how to determine whether it may be right for you.
Permanent makeup 101
Permanent makeup is a bit like a tattoo in that it uses natural pigments to color your lips, fill in your brows, or line your eyes. Your esthetician applies permanent makeup pigments to your skin using a sterile needle.
Pigments used in permanent makeup consist of iron oxides. These naturally-sourced minerals rarely irritate skin or cause allergic reactions. And unlike daily-wear cosmetic products, permanent makeup results can last for 1-3 years after your treatment.
At Dutch Hollow Medical Day Spa, we offer:
- Permanent eyeliner
- Permanent lip color
- Microbladed eyebrows
Thanks to numbing cream, tiny applicators, and advanced techniques, many people tolerate permanent makeup application without discomfort. Any potential side effects, such as swelling or irritation, tend to be mild and temporary.
Good candidates for permanent makeup
If you love the look of makeup but wish it took less time or effort to apply, you may be a strong candidate for permanent makeup. Permanent makeup may also be an ideal solution if you’d like to work out or play sports without having to worry about runny eyeliner. The same applies if you frequently spend time in the public eye or performing under bright lights.
You may not be a good candidate for permanent makeup, however, if you’re younger than 35 years old, you like to spend time tanning, or you have skin that’s prone to hyperpigmentation. In addition, permanent lip color doesn’t tend to work as well on darker skin tones.
If you tend to get cold sores, you may need to take an antiviral prescription medication beforehand to prevent a flare up. If you’re going through a major life trauma, we may recommend waiting until it’s resolved before scheduling your treatment.
