Are All Dermal Fillers the Same?

Dermal fillers can correct many types of cosmetic flaws without the risks and downtime of cosmetic surgery. However, with dozens of options, it can be confusing to know which one can deliver the results you desire.

Dermal fillers are injectable gels that can rejuvenate your skin and restore a more youthful appearance. While these cosmetic treatments provide an immediate and natural-looking result, all dermal fillers are not the same. Products vary by primary ingredient, duration, and area of treatment.

Selecting the right dermal filler requires professional knowledge and experience. With his expertise in dermal filler treatments, Samuel Figueroa, MD, of Dutch Hollow Medical Day Spa in Godfrey, Illinois, helps men and women safely turn back the hands of time without surgery.  After a thorough examination, Dr. Figueroa recommends the dermal filler most appropriate for your needs and administers a professional application for a natural-looking appearance.

Dutch Hollow Medical Day Spa offers several FDA-approved brands of dermal fillers. Learn how these products work and the types of results they provide.

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® is a brand name of dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that exists in your body naturally. At optimal levels, hyaluronic acid acts as a cushioning agent and can attract up to 1,000 times its weight in moisture.

Age depletes the amount of hyaluronic acid your body produces. This decrease results in a loss of skin volume and structure, which makes your wrinkles more visible.

Juvéderm products restore your natural supply of hyaluronic acid to improve moisture and plumpness where they’re injected. The five Juvéderm products are typically used as described below.

Juvéderm XC

Juvéderm XC improves moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, especially the area between your nose and mouth, called nasolabial folds or smile lines. Results can last up to one year.

Juvéderm Ultra XC:

Juvéderm Ultra® XC increases lip fullness and volume. It can also correct moderate to severe nasolabial folds. Results can last up to one year.

Juvéderm Volbella® XC

Juvéderm Vollure® XC increases lip fullness and corrects perioral lines, also called lipstick lines. Results can last up to one year.

Juvéderm Voluma® XC

Juvéderm Voluma® XC lifts and contours to correct age-related volume loss in your cheeks and midface area. Results can last up to 2 years.

Juvéderm Vollure® XC

Juvéderm Vollure® XC adds volume to subtly smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds. Results can last up to 18 months.

Revanesse®  VersaTM

Revanesse® Versa™ uses hyaluronic acid to plump the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles where it is applied. It contains a unique formulation of uniformly spherical filler particles to balance smoothness and volume with a natural-looking appearance.

Revanesse Versa treats areas where you need volume after the breakdown of collagen and submental fat. Injections can improve the appearance of sunken or uneven cheeks, moderate to severe nasolabial folds, and smile lines. It can also restore balance and symmetry when volume is lost as a result of aging or scarring. Results can last up to one year.

Belotero Balance®

Belotero Balance®  uses hyaluronic acid to treat superficial lines and moderate to severe wrinkles on the face. It can be effective in treating nasolabial folds, chin wrinkles, and etched-in lines around your lips and mouth that occur as the natural result of repeated expressions. Results last up to 18 months.

Restylane®

Restylane®  is a set of dermal fillers that use hyaluronic acid products in different formulations that target specific areas of your face. Dutch Hollow Medical Day Spa offers five Restylane products that provide results for up to 12 months.

Restylane Refyne

Restylane Refyne softens fine lines, nasolabial folds, and lines that extend from the corners of your mouth to your chin, called marionette lines.

Restylane Defyne

Restylane Defyne helps smooth moderate to severe nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Restylane Silk

Restylane Silk is designed for lip augmentation and smoothing wrinkles around the mouth.

Restylane Lyft

Restylane Lyft restores volume in your cheeks, midface area, and the back of your hands for a smoother and fuller appearance.

Radiesse®

Radiesse® is a dermal filler that contains hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in an aqua water gel carrier. It provides immediate correction for smoothing moderate to severe wrinkles and nasolabial folds. It is also FDA-approved to treat wrinkles on the back of your hands.

Radiesse continues to work by stimulating collagen production as it is absorbed by your body. Collagen is the natural protein that helps your skin feel tight, firm, and youthful. As collagen production slows with age, your skin loses elasticity and firmness. Results can last up to two years.
